Amanda Serrano
Overall, it was a thin week for the ladies with no world title action taking place, but a reigning title holder and former world champ saw non-title bouts with two regional titles up for grabs as well.
In Queens, N.Y., WIBA featherweight champion Amanda Serrano (19-1-1, 14 KO’s) stopped Kerri Hill (4-26-1, 1 KO) in the second round. Serrano, also a former IBF super featherweight title holder, won the WIBA strap in February but has yet to defend it.
Lisa Brown (20-6-3, 6 KO’s), a former WIBA and IFBA super bantamweight champion, won a six round decision over Amanda Beaudin (2-2, 1 KO) in Nova Scotia, Canada. Brown’s last bout was a try for the WBA bantamweight belt against Jackie Nava, but she was stopped in three rounds.
Victoria Bustos (10-2) won the Argentina lightweight title with a 10 round decision over Ana Laura Esteche (9-3-1, 2 KO’s). Esteche won the interim belt last December, but had never defended it. On the under card, undefeated Leonela Andino (5-0-1) won in four rounds over Alejandra Rios (6-4-2).
The vacant South African flyweight title was up for grabs, and won by Nozwelethu Mathontsi (2-0) when she took a 10 round decision win over Noxolo Makhanavu (2-2).
The coming weekend looks to be light as well, with only one title bout taking place; Betiana Vinas (8-4-3, 2 KO’s) defends the WBC Silver featherweight title against Edith Matthysse (11-5-1, 1 KO) in Argentina.
