The Ridge Point girls cross country team is on pace for a return to the UIL state meet after a District 23-5A championship Oct. 23 at Kitty Hollow Park. The Lady Panthers placed all five of their runners in the top 10 to score only 29 points, 14 points ahead of runner-up Ball.
Taylor Price won the individual title with a time of 18 minutes, 8.72 seconds on the 5,000-meter course. Ridge Point had only five runners but all ran in the top group with Breanna Sullivan (third), Tia Tanner (sixth), Halle McClintock (ninth) and Meredith Streeter (tenth) keeping the Lady Panthers ahead.
Elkins’ girls took third to qualify for the Region III meet, Nov. 1 at Atascocita High School. Jessica Monali took the lead with a runner-up time of 18:27.08, while Candyla M. Harris (15th), Jaylin D. Lewis (25th) and Sarah Harris (27th) are among the Lady Knights heading to regionals.
Bush’s Tara Mayes qualified for the next level with a fifth-place time of 18:41.11. The top 10 individuals and top three teams made the regional cut.
The 23-5A boys race was highlighted by a competitive run for first. Ball scored 41 points to edge Ridge Point (44) and Bush (50).
The Broncos were impressive at the front with Terrence Mayes the runner-up at 17:01.12 and Mayko Guevara only three seconds behind in third. Salomon Poncio (seventh), Sunday Aina (17th) and Jose Sanchez (22nd) are headed to Atascocita.
Ridge Point was led by four top-10 runners in Adam Burum (fifth), Zachary Whitener (sixth), Rodrigo Silva De La Pena (ninth) and Patrick Hampton (tenth). The Panthers will send Kelly Chilcutt (14th), Agustin Silva De La Pena (19th) and Jesse Boal (39th) to regionals as well.
