In the course of 12 months, Japanese fighter Naho “Sugi Rock” Sugiyama had lost three fights and her Jewels Featherweight championship.

Despite the losses, Sugiyama would not give up. In her last fight, she defeated Masako Yoshida in what was her most impressive performance to date.

For Sugi Rock, whose record now stands at 903, this win is just the thing she needs to get her career back on track. Prior to her first loss against Jessica Penne back in 2012, Sugiyama won nine-straight fights and became won the Jewels Featherweight Queen Grand Prix, which established her as the first Jewels Featherweight champion.

Sugiyama is a rising star in Japan and could eventually challenge for the championship at one or two more wins. There is also a chance she could receive a call from Invicta Fighting Championships to once again compete on North American soil following a couple of impressive wins. Although her first fight in the Invicta cage was unsuccessful, Sugiyama could find some success after she gains more experience.

Either way this is a big win for Sugiyama and hopefully the start of another nine-fight winning streak.
