Monthly Round-Up: Celebrities Using Skype in August:
It really is true that “celebrities are just like us.” People use Skype for all sorts of reasons – to reach out to friends and family, to do amazing things that haven’t been done before, and to just be funny and silly. Celebs are no different – that’s exactly what they’ve done with Skype this month.
Heartthrob actor Robert Pattinson definitely has seen the funny side of Skype. R. Patz took part in the most recent Jimmy Kimmel Live! Skype scavenger hunts, where he helped Kimmel host a scavenger hunt with two sets of college roommates. The roommates faced off in silly challenges as, “How many shoes do you have?,” with the winners receiving a TV set. See the hilarity play out in two parts below:
Tiger blood possessor and social media enthusiast Charlie Sheen also used Skype when he was crowned World Wrestling Entertainment’s ‘Social Media Ambassador’ for their historic 1,000th episode of WWE Monday Night Raw. Sheen got the crowd riled up by challenging wrestler Daniel Bryan to a match. Whether or not he would have been “winning” the wrestling match against Bryan, you can watch Sheen talk a big game about his wrestling skills:
But it’s not always about fun and games, it’s also all about the wonder. Rock band OneRepublic was recently blown away by modern technology when they made a call using Skype-to-Skype from 35,000 feet in the air. It just goes to show that with Skype, you can be a part of the conversation no matter where in the world – or how high in the sky – you are!
It’s also true that celebs are using Skype to feel closer to their fans. American Idol sweetheart Jessica Sanchez had some fun when she Skype video called her fans in the Philippines. She spoke to fans one-on-one, answering questions and letting them in on what went on behind-the-scenes during her time on the show. Check out the video of her full Skype party below:
And what’s great about Skype is that it can also can bring fans closer to celebrities. This fall, Anderson Cooper is making big changes to his daytime talk show. “Anderson Live” will be the first show that will enable viewers to interact throughout the show via Skype, Twitter, text and email. Anderson will respond to viewers’ comments and questions in real-time, allowing the audience to get involved and actively participate in the show. Check out Anderson’s fresh new approach to television, premiering September 10:
