So You Think You Can Dance judge Mary Murphy is being accused of forging legal documents in an effort to avoid paying more than $200,000 in damages to her former manager, Celebuzz has learned.
Hollywood agent Michael Sanchez has filed a complaint with the Los Angeles Superior Court in which he alleges Murphy, 54, “fraudulently altered” a summons — changing its date — to support her legal effort to toss the court’s earlier ruling to award him lost commissions.
Murphy has pleaded with a judge to reverse a default judgment from Nov. 8, awarding Sanchez $205,160 and 10 percent of any future earnings Murphy rakes in from SYTYCD.
“Murphy and MMPI (Mary Murphy Productions Inc.) assert that they failed to file an answer on a timely basis because they purportedly relied on a notion on the summons which stated that the summons was served on Murphy and MMPI on July 27, 2012,” Sanchez and his lawyer Steven P. Krakowsky argue in a Nov. 16 filing.
“This assertion is nothing less than an attempt to perpetrate a fraud upon this court.”
Sanchez claimed process server Diego Garijo served Murphy at her San Diego, Calif. dance studio on July 20 — not July 27, as Murphy told the court.
Herein lies one major problem for Murphy: Sanchez’s court filing also includes a declaration from the process server who swears under oath that the date of service was indeed July 20.
“The summons that is attached as Exhibit 1 to Leah Saffian’s purported declaration, which was apparently provided to her by Murphy, was FRAUDULENTLY ALTERED,” Sanchez’s document alleges.
“The handwritten date is not in [process server] Mr. Garijo’s handwriting. The date which was placed on the summons by Mr. Garijo (July 20, 2012) was removed and the later date (July 27, 2012) was written on the document to provide the purported basis for the instant motion.”
Murphy’s lawyer did not return multiple requests for comment.
