South Carolina Gamecocks star defensive end Jadeveon Clowney became connected to the autograph broker that is selling high volumes of Johnny Manziel signed memorabilia on eBay. It was noticed on Wednesday morning that the broker’s eBay listings also included a large amount of signed Clowney gear that included helmets and South Carolina branded footballs.
The university quickly looked in to the situation and determined that there was nothing for Gamecocks fans to get worked up about.
In their eyes, there was no violation.
“We have investigated things that have been on eBay with him and student-athletes before,” associate athletics director Chris Rogers said in a statement. “In the situations I can say we looked into, there was no further for us to go, and we determined there was no violation.”
The fact that there is plenty of signed Clowney gear is not a violation in itself, but if he were to have accepted cash in exchange for autograph sessions he would be in the same hot water as Johnny Manziel.
Luckily for the Gamecocks, there was no violation to be found.
