UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo did not look like his normal self in the octagon this past Saturday when he successfully defended his title against “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung, but the more information that comes out after the fight lets us know how impressive and gutty Aldo’s performance truly was.
Not only was Aldo dealing with a broken foot that he fractured in the early minutes of the fight, but he was also dealing with some kidney issues.
Dr. Marcio Tannure, the UFC’s doctor in Brazil, diagnosed Aldo with kidney stones on Tuesday.
“I learned about this problem with Andre (Pederneiras, Aldo’s coach),” Tannure said, via MMA Fighting. “He had renal calculus (kidney stones) before. He needs to send me the results of the exams so I can check it. Andre told me it’s not serious, and he probably already expelled the stones.”
It’s impressive that something which would leave the normal person sitting in unbearable pain was just a minor factor for the UFC champion.
He may not have looked like himself in the cage, but it goes to show that we never know exactly what a fighter is dealing with before he steps in to the octagon.
