Why I Think Musicians Are on the Rise on American Idol | mom by ...

Musicians are everywhere during this Idol season as everyone seems to understand what needs to be done to get on the show. Of course, there are the rare ones like those that are simply born with the musical talent needed to make a successful audition, but many of the contestants we’ve seen so far have had training in music, in any form. Some are trained in using instruments, while others have a background in stage performance, including church choir membership.

Maybe it’s because the show has been on for a long time, and the kids (and their parents) that wanted in when the show started have begun training for the fateful moment when they can actually join (sounds Jessica Sanchez-ish?). Nevertheless, a background and training in music would do any contestant good when it comes to the Hollywood auditions where they’re expected to know the answer when the voice coach asks in which key the song should start.

There’s a worldwide clamor about the thing with white guys with guitars, particularly since they predominate in the competition. I also would like to see someone play another instrument, like a keyboard, just like last season’s Colton Dixon. Maybe some contestant would surprise us and play a saxophone halfway through a song. I hope it’s a cutie using a best Berg Larsen mouthpiece.

All in all, I’m quite excited about this season, especially with the judges showing their personalities and I’m finding out that I actually like Nicki Minaj.
