High School Report: Local soccer teams get 'Biebered' World Cup ...

October 11th, 2012 by jaredreedazx

Quite a few girls soccer teams played without a full roster on Tuesday night.

Players weren’t sick. Players weren’t suspended.

They were at the Tacoma Dome, watching a teen heartthrob in concert.

“We got Justin Biebered,” said Olympic soccer coach Steve Haggerty, whose short-handed team lost to North Kitsap 5-0.

Klahowya was down two starters, but managed to beat Bremerton 6-0. Kingston was minus one starter and beat Port Angeles 3-2 in overtime when Sarah Holt converted a penalty kick.

Buccaneers coach Craig Smith got a good laugh when finding out that other teams were affected by Bieber-mania.

“I’ll have to get on Haggerty about that Justin Bieber thing and ask him how he enjoyed the concert,” Smith said.

ALSO: Reilly Brennan scored three goals as North Kitsap earned a 5-0 victory over Olympic, which began the day alone in second place in the Olympic League standings. … Jessica Sanchez found the back of the net for Central Kitsap in a 1-0 victory over Olympia. Maureen Crowe earned the shutout for the Cougars. … Bainbridge (11-1, 6-1) defeated Holy Names 2-0. Natalie Vukic scored her 20th goal in the win.

Volleyball: Vikings outlast Olympic, 3-2

The North Kitsap Vikings got off to a rough start, falling behind 0-2, before they stopped making unforced errors. That’s about the time the Olympic Trojans started making errors in a 3-2 Olympic League loss.
